Contour and highlighting has fast become a trend that everyone and everybody is doing, whether it's minimal or extreme. There is a huge range of products out there from cream, liquid and powder which I like to use. Not only is there new contour products being released but also a whole range of brushes which can make your contour and highlight perfect. The process of contouring can take a little practise but once you master the perfect techniques and use the correct tools everything becomes a little easier and extremely addictive.
Having a good range of brushes for any formula of contour or highlight can truly make or break the product. I have four favourite bruhes which I use for all three formulas. Real techniques have an amazing contour brush set which is perfect for contouring regardless of whether it is liquid, powder or cream. Zoeva another one of my favourite brush brands do a range of different brushes perfect for contouring and highlighting methods.
I don't own many liquid products to highlight and contour but they are the perfect way to create a dramtic, more intense contour look perfect if you are a fan of taking selfies. Liquid products can be a little harder to work with and require a little more blending to avoid harsh lines but worth the purchase. The perfect brush to use is Real Techniques Sculpting Brush which is sturdy and blends products seamlessly. Concealers are also a perfect way to cheaply contour and highlight without the price tag. I simply buy Seventeen concealers in a few shades lighter and darker to create the perfect base for contouring before applying a powder bronzer. To highlight Benefit's High Beam is a winner, like most liquid products it's a little hard to blend but once blended it's a beautiful pink toned highlighter.
Cream contour is something that is fast becoming the biggest contour and highlight formula. If you choose the right product it should look dewy, blended and super natural depending on how much you apply. The cream formula isn't as wide spread among the drugstore brands but something that is slowly making an appearance. I only own one cream product by W7 a contour stick which was bought purely out of curiosity. It isn't the best cream product out there but considering the price it's not the worst. However on my wish list is the NYX cream contour palette and Anastasia cool toned cream contour.
Powder contour is by far the most common and popular. It is definitely the easiest to apply and can be worn on simple make up days. My favourite powder products are Benefit's Hoola bronzer, Anastasia contour palette and Make up Revolution's blush palette in Golden Sugar which is a highlighter palette I adore. There is a range of shades, some of them are subtle and natural and others are a little more out there perfect for a night out. The more expensive palette is very good but nothing I couldn't find for cheaper. I like to use the Real Techniques and Zoeva Luxe Cheek brush to apply powder bronzer. Benefit's Hoola bronzer is many make up lovers favourite product and it is really worth the hype which is cool toned and pigmented perfect for any pale skinned make up addict.
