The Base Coats

I have been looking for the perfect base coat for as long as I have been painting my nails . I haven't yet found one that caters my needs ( stops peeling and strengthens ) but I have managed to find a select few that aren't perfect but still seem to get used . Base coats are so important , they act as protecter whether or not you are wearing nail polish and are a necessity in any nail addicts collection. Whilst you may believe that they all have the one purpose I tend to use each one for very specific and different reasons.

Orly Polish Bond - this is the base I use when I'm applying polish to my nails . Like most base coats it dries pretty fast but once dry it doesn't feel like most base coats but instead a sheeny matte which is kind of sticky which helps the polish to bond (the clue's in the name really ) this was my most recent base purchase and I love it for helping my polish to last longer but price wise it's a tad expensive at £10 a bottle slightly beating the price of Seche Vite .

Nails Inc Save the Nail- when I made the purchase of this nail treatment I wasn't aware that it was made by Nails Inc. It has a total different look to usual Nails Inc products and at under £10 it's quite the winner. The idea is that you paint your nails everyday with the polish and on the seventh day you remove it all and start again. Whilst I love this idea it really is time consuming and your polish is gone in a matter of weeks.

Seche Vite topcoat - when everything else fails or if you don't have any base products in your collection just yet or are on the low side then a topcoat can do perfectly. It's a great alternative but one I wouldn't recommend for every time your nails require a lick of base coat.

What is your favourite base coat ?

  1. I love the Orly. The way that I use it though is to do the "sticky sandwich" to make my colour last without chipping. I've never used it like a normal base coat! I'm currently trying the Essie adhesive base coat; have you ever tried it?

  2. I try and do a sticky sandwich too - base coat, colour and top coat. I use the Orly for both :)

  3. The polish bond sounds amazing! I think the bas and top coat are the biggest factors in the longevity of your nail polish, so I love hearing reviews on them.

  4. I tried a strengthening base coat varnish similar to the Nails Inc one you have mentioned.
I found having to apply it everyday was too difficult (I know, applying clear varnish isn't that difficult!) I'd forget to do it. I had to keep it in my desk at work because it was the only way I could remember to do it. Nightmare! xx
